In the evening of March 22, 2024, the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering (IMSE) at The University of Hong Kong (HKU) proudly hosted its 50^th Anniversary Gala Dinner at the historic Loke Yew Hall. The event brought together esteemed guests, dedicated alumni, brilliant students, distinguished faculty members, generous sponsors, and steadfast supporters to celebrate the Department’s remarkable journey over the past five decades.

The Department’s success in engineering education and research is a testament to the unwavering passion and commitment of its extraordinary community. The Department of IMSE has grown into a leader in the field, preparing students to excel in their careers and contribute to the advancement of industrial engineering.

The Gala Dinner commenced with an opening speech from Professor Max SHEN Zuojun, Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) and Chair Professor in Logistics and Supply Chain Management of the Department, followed by a warm welcome address from Professor XI Ning, the Head and Chair Professor of Robotics and Automation of the Department. Mr Michael WONG Wai-lun, GBS, JP, Deputy Financial Secretary, offered his congratulatory remarks, and Mr LAM Sai-hung, GBS, JP, Secretary for Transport and Logistics, delivered another speech. Subsequently, our alumni shared a series of inspiring stories, recounting their memories and experiences at the Department of IMSE, and highlighting the Department’s role in shaping their professional and personal lives. Throughout the night, guests enjoyed a splendid meal, lively conversations, and a captivating saxophone performance by Ir Dr the Honourable LO Wai-kwok, our notable Master of Science graduate.

The 50^th Anniversary Gala Dinner served not only as a celebration of the Department’s shared achievements but also as a reaffirmation of its dedication to shaping a brighter future for industrial engineering. As the IMSE community strides into the next 50 years, there is a sense of confidence that the Department will continue to inspire, innovate, and make a lasting impact on society.
