Abstract:

To ensure a high quality of life in cities, it is necessary to improve the level of urban logistics continuously. In recent years, with the rapid development of e-commerce, the constant increase in freight volume is thus a compelling reason to improve urban logistics.

As urban space is a limited resource, it is commonly believed that the flow of passengers and goods is interactive strongly. Recently, the concept of passenger and goods ride sharing (PGRS) has received considerable attention. This concept focuses on making a joint use of transport resources between passengers and goods flows. Based on this concept, to ease the increasing pressure on the urban transport system, there is a great potential value to use public transit vehicles or infrastructure for goods movement. In this study, we consider a scenario of a joint operation of express delivery business by urban public transit operator and express delivery operator. We study the impact of joint operation on price, service and profit for the two operators. In this seminar, the domain problem and analysis of related literature will be introduced in detail. The tentative idea of mathematical modeling will be proposed.
