B.Eng. in Industrial Engineering and Technology Management
(JUPAS Code: 6963 Bachelor of Engineering)

The B.Eng. programme in Industrial Engineering and Technology Management is designed to meet the needs of Hong Kong by producing graduates who possess both technical expertise in industrial engineering and a thorough understanding of technology management based upon the use of information technology. This programme accordingly provides a balance between theory and practice combined with a high level of intellectual rigour focusing on the two major areas of Industrial Engineering and Technology Management. These emphases in this B.Eng. curriculum serve as a timely response to the need to transform Hong Kong into a knowledge-driven and technology-intensive economy.

In helping Hong Kong to evolve into an innovation and technology centre in the new millennium, local companies must become more agile, flexible, and highly adaptive to global market demands. This B.Eng. curriculum is designed to prepare industrial engineers and technology managers of the future to meet these challenges that lie ahead. Indeed,
industrial engineers and technology managers assume crucial roles in modern society with the capabilities of deploying human and technical resources in designing new infrastructure, and also in applying their system integration skills to promote information technology and innovation in producing and delivering products and services.

In order to meet this requirement for graduates with a broad base of skills, this B.Eng. curriculum, with particular emphasis on technology management and entrepreneurship, endeavours to integrate the following aspects of the design and development of industrial systems:

Industrial marketing
Product development
Manufacturing systems engineering
Business systems and management
Financial information and control

This integration is achieved in this B.Eng. programme by providing students with an understanding of the value-adding activities in the development of new products and services at various points along the supply chain. These activities are manifested in global operations as, for example, strategic management, supply chain and logistics management, quality management, integrated resources management, and customer relationships management. These activities require a high degree of innovation underpinned by the ability of industrial engineer/technology manager to manipulate knowledge in order to generate effective solutions to the complex design and operations problems.

This B.Eng. programme is thus designed to produce graduates of both sexes who are capable of designing and managing information and industrial systems, in order to meet the needs of industrial marketing and product development among various sectors, including services, business, government, and manufacturing organisations as industry enters the global era. Such graduates are destined to have interesting, challenging, and rewarding careers.
