The 2015 Forum for Industrial Engineering Postgraduates and Scholars was held on 1st December, 2015 at Chow Yei Ching CBA, HKU. The theme of FIE 2015 is “Financial Technology (Fin-Tech) and Cross-board Payment”. Around 200 participants attended this event. Mr. Sammy Kam, technical director from Octopus Card Limited, Ir. Dr. Daniel CW Ng, president of Institute of Systematic Innovation and committee member of HKIE MI Division, Mr. Liao Zhe from Tencent Holdings Ltd, Mr. Zheng Liangxi from Ant Finance of Alibaba Group Ltd, Mr. Xiao Wu from Alipay of Alibaba Group Ltd and Dr. Wai Hung Yeung from HKIB attended as the honorable guests and speakers. Inspiring speeches given by the honorable guests and excellent entertainments afterwards made this forum successful.

The forum started with a welcome and opening speech delivered by Prof.G.Q. Huang. The first session is Financial Technology. In this session, the technical director of Octopus Card Limited, Mr. Sammy Kam introduced the development of Octopus card and future opportunities. Ir. Dr. Daniel CW Ng delivered an excellent speech on trend and vision financial technology in Hong Kong. The second session is related with cross-board payment. Mr Zheng Liangxi from Ant Finance of Alibaba Group Ltd introduced the security of online payment to the students, applying a lot of examples in the daily life. Mr Xiao Wu, from Alibaba Group Ltd, introduced the crowdfunding to the students. Attendees were so much impressed by his imaginative description. The last session is about future development of Financial Technology. Mr Liao Zhe from Tencent Holdings Ltd talked about the innovative application of QR code in the daily life. The forum finished after a speech given by Dr. Wai Hung Yeung from HKIB who introduced the whole industry in Hong Kong to the students, providing detailed information to the attendees.

This Forum discussed the frontiers of Industrial Engineering and provided insights to the young engineers on how they can prepare themselves to adapt to the evolving industry. It is believed that the undergraduates and postgraduates attended this event could acquire the most recent news and trends in this field and have an access to transfer what they learn in class to the practical implication.
