2014 Forum for Industrial Engineering Postgraduates and Scholars

The 2014 Forum for Industrial Engineering Postgraduates and Scholars with the theme of “Global Supply Chain Leadership and Innovation” was held on 29th December, 2014 at Room 201, K.K. Leung Building of the University of Hong Kong. Around 120 participants attended this event, Ir Dr Hon LO Wai Kwok, current member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong, representing the Engineering Functional Constituency, Ir Daniel M. CHENG, managing director of Dunwell Enviro-Tech Ltd., deputy Chairman of the Federation of Hong Kong Industries, also Founding president of Hong Kong Environmental Industry Association, Ir S.C. HO, Chairman of HKIE, Manufactory and industrial division, co-organizer of FIE 2014, Dr, Roger CHAN Kwok Yuen, chartered member of CILT-HK, Mr. Kelvin KO, Chief Executive Officer of Cathay Pacific Services Limited, Ir Dr Yiu Man Wong, the group technical director at BPS global group, Mr Felix LAM, Head of Corporate Supplies in The Hong Kong and China Gas Company were attended as the honorable guests and speakers. Inspiring speeches given by honorable guests and excellent entertainments afterwards made this forum successful.

The forum was started with an introduction speech delivered by Professor George Huang, head of department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering and followed by an opening speech for all the participators from Mr. Leon Kong, Chairperson of FIE 2014 and post-chairperson of IEPGA executive committee.

The current member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong, Ir Dr. Lo Wai Kwok delivered the first keynote speech on “Smart logistics and internet of Things”, related to the Asia-Pacific trading and logistics hub, Hong Kong facing keen competitions from our neighboring cities; In order to enhance our position in the region and upkeep our competitive edge, Smart Logistics and Internet of Things (IoT), emerged in recent years, offer significant opportunities. Ir. Daniel M. Cheng, the managing director of Dunwell Enviro-Tech Ltd, delivered a speech on sustainable development in Industrial Engineering to demonstrate the challenge we are facing now with the rapid change of Industrial and Internet technology and share with everyone on how he uses all his IE skills to innovate himself into a Green Leader for a Sustainable 22nd Century. At the end of each keynote speech, the scene audience including honorable guests, researchers and students all raised questions on the speech and received satisfactory and thought-provoking answers from the speaker in details during the highly active interaction.

This Forum discussed the frontiers of Industrial Engineering and Logistics Management, aimed at providing a platform for idea exchange between students, researchers, and the out-side professionals in global supply chain and insights to the young engineers on how they can prepare themselves to adapt the evolving industry.

When asking about the feeling of this event, Ms Camellia Guo, the proposed chairperson of IEPGA executive committee 2015 had the following reply:

“The 2014 Forum for Industrial Engineering Postgraduates and Scholars inherited the fine tradition from last year and extended the depth and breadth of speeches through inviting more experienced and senior professions in logistic and industrial engineering. I do believe that postgraduates attended this lecture will acquire the most recent news and trends in this field and have an access to transfer what they learn in class to practical implication. I hope that all of guests and postgraduates enjoy this afternoon and reunion on 2015 November. “

The IEPGA was established in 2013 to serve as a bridge between the Association members, authoritative bodies, and external parties to enrich the study and career of the members in the industry.
