More than 50% of the world’s population lives in cities. The ever-growing urban population entails economic opportunities as well as major challenges to sustainable development. Enabled by latest technological advances, the Smart City approach to managing key urban infrastructure and services has emerged as a potential strategy to overcome these grand challenges. In this talk, I shall discuss my recent research on operations management problems in the Smart City context, how this line of research has led to the development of an MBA course on Smart City Analytics at Oxford University, as well as how developing this course has inspired some interesting research problems.
