The 2020 IEEE International Conference on Automation Science and Engineering (CASE) will be held on 20-24 August 2020 in Hong Kong. The IEEE CASE is the flagship automation conference of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society and constitutes the primary forum for cross-industry and multidisciplinary research in automation. Its goal is to provide a broad coverage and dissemination of foundational research in automation among researchers, academics, and practitioners. The theme of the conference is Automation Analytics.

Due to the recent 2019-nCoV epidemic, important dates of CASE2020 have been extended. At this stage, epidemic is contained in Hong Kong. Hong Kong has been very experienced and professional in handling epidemics ever since SARS some 17 years ago. Therefore:
(1) The deadlines of full paper submission and acceptance notice will be extended by ONE week, from 29 March to 5 April. This extension is the final effort to allow colleagues whose works have been seriously affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
(2) The IEEE CASE2020 conference will proceed as planned on 20-24 August 2020 in The University of Hong Kong.
(3) IEEE CASE2020 will be held in a mixed mode of “virtual / online attendance / presentation through Zoom” and traditional “face to face” (if the situation allows). For online attendance and presentations, we will substantially reduce the registration fees by deducting costs of conference dinner and lunches. The organizing team is working on how best to utilize online and social media facilities to offer an innovative CASE2020. We will announce the details of the arrangements.
Please feel confident and be encouraged to submit your papers and/or presentation abstracts according to the new deadlines. Also please encourage your colleagues, students and professional friends to submit papers and/or abstracts. We will try our best to offer you an enjoyable, safe and fruitful conference experiences in Hong Kong.
In the meanwhile, we shall carefully observe guidelines from Hong Kong Special Administration Region (HKSAR) government and The University of Hong Kong, and liaise with CASE steering committee and IEEE for any necessary actions in the near future. Although things are uncertain, we will do our best to select a safe and productive option to serve all who participate in IEEE CASE 2020. We shall keep you well informed about the status and program in advance.
